about

I met Brently in 2007. He was from Texas. He introduced me to music that changed my life and that I still hold dear today. I saw Brently every few months from 2007-2010. Soon after his health began to decline. I do not know exactly what happened to him only that the memories I had of him are burned into my brain and that his music is burned into my heart.

This album which I took the licence of entitling "Invitation to Dream" after track one, are bedroom recorded folk/rock/psychedelic songs that could fit under the famous Athens Elephant 6 label or rival any Shins song. Brently had a deft talent for composition, melody, home recording and vocal harmony. These songs give off serious Oracle and Odessy and Pet Sounds vibes and there is an obvious Mangum influence that I find endearing. These are some eerily sweet yet sad and lonely songs.

I found these recordings online, on his old Reverbnation site and with the fear that Brently and his recordings would be lost forever I saved them and uploaded them to my bandcamp label for safe keeping. I believe they were recorded sometime between 2005-2007.

Brently was an isolated person and I do not know if he had a lot of friends. I do not know if he ever preformed live or wanted to do anything with these songs other than posting them online.

The photo in the song credits is one of the only I have seen of him online and the watercolor painting used as the EP cover is one of two I know he personally painted.

He hated that I called him Brently.

Rest in Peace my friend.
